Gillian Anderson achieved international recognition for her role as Special Agent Dana Scully on the American television series The X-Files. During the show’s nine seasons, Gillian won Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild awards.

Her film credits include The Mighty; Playing By Heart with Sean Connery, Angelina Jolie, and Jon Stewart; Edith Wharton’s classic The House of Mirth (won the Best Actress award at the British Independent Film Awards and The Village Voice Film Critics’ Poll for Best Performance); The Mighty Celt (won the Irish Film and Television Audience Award); Michael Winterbottom’s Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story with Steve Coogan and Jeremy Northam; The Last King of Scotland with James McAvoy and Forrest Whitaker; How To Lose Friends and Alienate People with Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst and Jeff Bridges; Boogie Woogie alongside Stellan Skarsgaard, Danny Huston and Amanda Seyfried.

In the BBC mini-series adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic Bleak House, Gillian starred as Lady Dedlock and the critically-acclaimed performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards in 2006 and at the Emmys and Golden Globes; she won the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Actress.

In 2010, she played Ahab’s wife, Elizabeth, in Michael Barker’s television series Moby Dick alongside Ethan Hawke and William Hurt. Other television credits include Any Human Heart (Bafta 2011 nomination for her protrayal of the Duchess of Windsor); and Michel Faber’s psychological thriller The Crimson Petal and the White (April 2011, BBC2) with Romola Garai and Chris O’Dowd.

On big screens in 2011, she played Pegasus/Pamela Thornton in the international hit Johnny English Reborn with Rowan Atkinson, Dominic West, and Rosamund Pike.

Gillian is also in two upcoming films: James Marsh’s thriller, Shadow Dancer which was filmed in Ireland alongside Clive Owen, Andrea Riseborough, and Aidan Gillen and in Ursula Meier’s Swiss drama Sister which was awarded a Special Mention Silver Bear at the Berlinale 2012 Film Festival.

She recently finished filming Sandra Nettelbeck’s Mr. Morgan’s Last Love with Michael Caine, Clémence Poésy, Justin Kirk and Jane Alexander. She is currently working on BBC’s five-part series The Fall, a serial killer chiller set in Belfast.

Gillian made her London stage debut in Michael Weller’s What The Night Is For in 2002 and then went on to continued success and critical acclaim in the Royal Court’s production of Rebecca Gillman’s play The Sweetest Swing in Baseball in 2005. In 2009, she received an Olivier award nomination for her portrayal of Nora in Zinnie Harris’ adaptation of A Doll’s House at London’s prestigious West End theatre, The Donmar Warehouse.

Over the last 16 years Gillian has been involved in many charity organizations, as a spokesperson for The Neurofibromatosis Network, a founding member of SA-YES, a board member of Artists for a New South Africa, and a patron of the Alinyiikira Junior School in Uganda, among many others.
